CARRC® multidisciplinary membership provides
direction, insight, and perspective to all phases of the research
program. CARRC® partners have evolved technically and together have
developed an understanding of the layers of social, regulatory,
legal, and competitive issues surrounding CCB utilization in general
and how those issues impact specific use applications for individual
members. Based on this collective experience, CARRC® is equipped
to respond to the diverse technical issues posed by potential users,
regulators, environmentalists, and concerned citizens.
CARRC® member-driven research topics are developed
and prioritized based on member input. The topics are designed to
provide CCB performance data, including environmental performance,
engineering performance, economics, and product and project life
cycle. The technical data gleaned

from CARRC® work continues to
build the CCB information pool. To leverage industrial member contributions
and
|
facilitate an increased level of research, CARRC® has
partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through the EERC Jointly
Sponsored Research Program, which typically provides 40% matching funds
for member contributions.
In addition to directing future CARRC® research, members
are afforded the opportunity to submit samples from their facilities for
inclusion in specific work tasks. The results are presented to members
in a manner that maintains confidentiality, if desired.
To house results, CARRC® has developed and maintains
the Coal Ash Properties Database (CAPD), which contains identification
and characterization information on more than 800 CCB samples from throughout
the world, primarily derived from member samples. An individualized version
of the CAPD software is provided to each member that allows the addition
of data at the member?s discretion. Further, members may distribute copies
of their version of the CAPD as desired.
