SALARY: $50,000 - $80,000

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: This position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research and development. The EERC is looking for a chemical engineer with an active interest in fossil or renewable energy production technologies and who is interested in pursuing an exciting, fast-paced research position. This individual would be led by a project manager or principal investigator and will contribute to the success of projects through engineering and design functions as related to conversion of coal or biomass to fuels, chemicals, and energy. Specific assignments may include process and equipment design through the use of engineering calculations, drawings, and process simulators for processes related to gasification/pyrolysis, combustion, and emission control for coal-or biomass-related systems. The position will also involve providing engineering support on a variety of advanced pilot systems for testing and developing alternative fuels and energy forms. The successful candidate would support these development efforts by performing the following essential functions: contributing both to the design and hands-on fabrication of experimental equipment and overseeing or operating that equipment, helping to prepare research proposals, interpreting data, writing reports and papers, presenting project results to clients and presenting papers at national and international conferences. Some travel is required.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering with an extensive knowledge of reaction chemistry and transformations. Excellent interpersonal skills to include ability to prepare experimental plans and technical reports. Interest in alternative and advanced energy and fuels research. Field testing on occasions in remote areas for up to several weeks at a time. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Academic or work related experience in coal or biomass gasification/combustion. Familiarity with CO² capture technologies
